The Amitabha is the most ancient of all the ‘Dhyani buddhas’. His two palms folded face up on his lap is the ‘Samadhi Mudra’. He is the buddha of ‘infinite light’ residing in the Sukhabati heaven (heaven of joy) in peaceful meditation. He has a lotus as his sign and a peacock as his vehicle. He embodies the color red. This thanka was painted by artists in Nepal who have been painting these for generations.
